K-2's Weekly News (May 28-31)

It has been another exciting and productive week in kindergarten.  The children are still hard at work and eager to learn!

Math
The children continue to do a great job completing our "hidden picture" math facts sheets.  This week they practiced adding numbers with sums up to 10, and they did an awesome job!!  We continued to work in our math journals as well and reviewed telling time to the hour.

Literacy
This week the children completed their final Treasures workbook as well as a word family sorting activity.   I also collected the students' book bags this week to inventory all of our guided reading books.  I will send home the sight word cards and sight word books from their books bags this week.  Please continue to practice and review all of our kindergarten sight words and encourage your child to read their sight word books as well.  Registration for the Arlington Heights Memorial Library's reading program starts this Monday, June 3.  It's always a great way to keep reading over the summer!

Junior Achievement
This week we began the kindergarten Junior Achievement program called "Ourselves," which integrates stories and hands-on activities about helping, working, earning, and saving.  This week the children learned about trading one item for another, and they reviewed pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters when listening to a story about a girl who earned money at a market by selling handmade bookmarks.

Visiting First Grade
The children were very so excited to visit one of the first grade classrooms.  Miss Bandur's first grade students welcomed us into their room and shared some of their work with us.  The children had a great time!

Field Day
The children had a WONDERFUL time at field day, and all of our parent volunteers did an amazing job.  It was a great day!
