Take a peek below to see what we have been learning!
Literacy
We recently completed Module 6 in our literacy program, which focused on what makes the USA special. Through the books we read, we learned about our country's special symbols, our unique landscapes, and people who have contributed to our country's history.
In our current unit, Module 7, we are currently reading books that are helping us "Zoom in!" The texts in this module are helping us look closely at new things, think differently about familiar topics, and ask questions so that we can make new connections.
In our recent phonics lessons, the students have been learning about digraphs--when two letters represent one sound. In our current unit, we will learn the following digraphs. We will also continue to practice reading and writing words with these sounds.
sh as in shark
th as in thin
th as in this
ch as in cheetah
ck as in kick
wh as in whale
ng as in swing
Math
We completed Chapter 8 in math, which focused on subtraction, and now we have begun our next unit, which focuses on numbers up to 100. In this unit, students will further develop their understanding of place value as they practice counting on by 10's and 1's using manipulatives and pictures. They will also explore patterns on the 100 chart as well as reading and writing numbers up to 100.

Social Studies
We have been learning about how people live. We explored and compared how children eat, play, learn, and listen to music all around the world. We also talked about the difference between needs and wants. We learned that people need food, clothing, and shelter in order to live. We also learned that people have wants, or things they like but do not need to survive. We practiced spending money and budgeting for both our needs and wants. Finally, we talked about all the different ways we can work together to take care of our world like: reducing, reusing, and recycling the things we use everyday.
Science
This week we will begin our study of plants and animals. In this unit, students will learn how plants, animals, and people use resources from their environments to survive. We will also learn that an animal is a creature that can move and get what it needs from where it lives like water, food, and shelter. Students will also pick an animal to research and write a report about the information they learn.
Looking forward to the weeks ahead!
Thanks so much for reading!
