Literacy
We recently completed Module 5 in our literacy program, which focused on helping students see that with a little hard work, some practice, and perseverance they can achieve their goals! We read several stories about trying new things, teamwork, and setting goals.
We recently completed Module 5 in our literacy program, which focused on helping students see that with a little hard work, some practice, and perseverance they can achieve their goals! We read several stories about trying new things, teamwork, and setting goals.
Our current unit will focus on all the places and people that make America special. Through our read aloud books, we will learn about our country's traditions, leaders, and special landmarks.
Structured Literacy
The students have now learned all consonant and short vowel sounds and are now learning about long vowels. We have been learning about open and closed syllables and have been learning how to read words with long vowel sounds. Students also continue to practice their writing skills through various writing activities throughout the week including dictated sentences that help students review our current phonics patterns and high frequency words.
Math
The students did a great job learning about addition concepts during our previous unit, and they are quickly learning how to apply their addition skills to our current unit on subtraction. We have been playing games to practice these skills and providing lots of opportunities for students to share the strategies they have been using to solve problems.

Social Studies
In our current unit, we have been learning about our place in the world. We learned that the world is a big place filled with many cities and countries. We even made our own "telescopes" to look at images of our city, state, country and our planet Earth. In our upcoming lessons, we will learn how children all over the world eat, learn, and play.
Playtime
The class was excited to explore a new playtime option--our construction center! We will be introducing other dramatic play options as well in the weeks ahead!
